Vehicle Theft is on the Rise
The challenge of vehicle theft continues to plague the mobility industry – notably rental vehicles, car clubs, ride sharing, corporate lease and other fleet-focused businesses.
Van theft cost UK businesses £264¹ ($318) million in 2020. The top 3 vans that are most frequently stolen² are:
- Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 313 CDI – 1,169 vans stolen in 2020 and only 247 recovered
- Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 314 CDI – 860 stolen in 2020 and 112 recovered
- Ford Transit 350 – 756 stolen in 2020 and 220 recovered
In some cases, the disappearance of a vehicle has less to do with theft and is often the result of an overdue vehicle being kept longer than its originally intended hire – such as is the case with vehicles in rental vehicle, car club and ride sharing businesses. Nevertheless, the focus shifts to the safe location and return of the asset.
While a number of disparate vehicle services and products exist on the market, they do not provide a comprehensive approach to confidently ensure vehicle security.
It’s time for your business to not be required to assume the headaches and challenges of self-managing key aspects of vehicle location and recovery.
